Brazilian Post issued today (April 23) the fourth stamp of the series “Diplomatic Relations”, celebrating the friendship with Lebanon. The Lebanese community in Brazil is currently the largest in the world to live outside Lebanon (USA has the second one); by the way, my great grandfather was a Lebanese immigrant.
Literature was the thematic chosen since Beirut was designated by UNESCO as 2009 World Book Capital. The stamp depicts the image of the Lebanese poet and writer Khalil Gibran (1883 – 1931) and one of his citations “Wisdom is the only wealth that tyrants can not expropriate”. Beirut is the ninth city designated as World Book Capital, following Madrid (2001), Alexandria (2002), New Delhi (2003), Antwerp (2004), Montreal (2005), Turin (2006), Bogota (2007) and Amsterdam (2008).
