This beautiful lighthouse is the main focal point in the harbor of Hope Town, on the Abacos islands, Bahamas. The Elbow Cay Lighthouse is one of only three manually operated kerosene-powered lighthouses still in use in the world. It was built in 1862 and became operational two years later. The stripped horizontally red and white tower (89 foot tall) is open to visitors interested in climbing its 101 steps up to visit the light mechanism. Its light can be seen from 23 nautical miles away. Thank you, Gina. This is my first postcard from Bahamas.
